Making Money And Gaining Knowledge Through Domain Parking
Saturday July 01st 2006, 10:38 pm

That’s me now parked nearly all of my domain names that are not currently in use at Sedo as per my earlier post, Sifting Through My Domain Names. Just under 500 names in total.

Any domain names that I add to my portfolio are now parked straight away too so that I can see if they generate any traffic and to hopefully get them earning their keep (Sedo shares advertising revenue with domain name owners).

In June I earned just under €20 (Sedo is a German company hence the euros), but as I added names throughout the month I expect to earn around €30 a month now that they are all in position. Not a fortune granted, but more than I was making when they were just gathering dust. And in terms of return on my investment in names it works out at between 10% and 15% a year.
It’s also interesting to see what names do have traffic because it makes knowing what names to develop into sites that much easier. I have also been able to direct some of that traffic to related developed sites simply by redirecting visitors from an undeveloped domain name to one that has a website up and running. This is easily done free of charge through the control panel of any domain name registrar worthy of the name.
