Some Stuff I Want To Tell You About (And Remind Myself About Too)
Wednesday November 28th 2007, 6:22 pm
Here’s a couple of the pages that I bookmarked today that should be of interest to you too. First up is an excellent round up of eye tracking studies by Christina Laun. The way people read a web page is totally different to how people read a printed page and research in this field is well worth taking into account if yo want your web pages to be as successful as they can be - not only in terms of revenue, but in terms of reader enjoyment. Anyway, you’ll find the article over at Virtual Hosting. Incidentally I came found that article thanks to a piece about it on Seth Godin’s superb blog. The title of an article over at 45n5 really made me sit up and take notice - Build Websites Like Search Engines Didn’t Exist. When I started out as an online entrepreneur, ranking highly in the search engines was my number one goal. That’s not to say I didn’t take pride in my content - I always believed that content is king - but I spent hour upon hour trying to rank highly for given search terms. As a result, I learned a great deal about search engines and how to rank highly, but I also learned through bitter experience that you can’t take a top ranking for granted - no matter how good you think your website is. I also learned that if you write for people not search engine robots, you not only attract visitors (who come back, tell others, etc), but the search engines like you too By writing for people not robots, and by laying out your pages to take into account how those people read web pages, you should be producing knockout pages time after time.
