Busy Month Ahead Ensuring Money Isn’t Left On The Table
Monday February 04th 2008, 10:02 am
Lots to do this week - in fact lots to do this month. As well as working on my Leonardo Da Vinci Moment website, I’ve a handful of other sites that need my immediate attention, not least because money is being left on the table. I start every day the same way. Checking what I’ve earned the day before. And yesterday, while checking one of the affiliate network sites, I noticed that I had made a sale, but earned no commission. Digger deeper I discovered that I had indeed made a sale and would have earned £24 commission - but the affiliate program was no longer live on that network, having moved to another one late last year. I did know that the program had moved and thought I’d updated all my links to reflect this, but apparently not. I’ve since found the offending link and have updated it, but on the same site I have found several other links to programs that are either no longer active or which have moved networks. It’s very easy to let little things like this slip, especially when you are concentrating on other projects, but the truth is it costs me money. I’ve done all the hard work - building an attractive page, attracting a visitor who wants to buy something - only to undo all that hard work with a dodgy link. So there are four or five of sites that I know fall into this bracket and I want to sort them out this month. Another thing that is due a service is my domain name portfolio. Hardly a day goes by without me adding a domain name to my current tally of over 1,500 names (already today for example I’ve added bargainshoppers.co.uk and its pal bargain-shoppers.co.uk). The important thing is that they all pull their weight - either by me developing them immediately, parking them so that they are at least earning their keep, or re-directing them so that they are driving traffic to developed sites. I’ve quite a few that are currently pointing nowhere and again that is costing me money. So this month I’m going to go through my entire domain name portfolio, name by name, making sure that they are all working for me, checking visitor stats to see if I’m missing out on development opportunities and so on. And I suppose there is no time like the present to get started.
