Look – No Wires! Work Wherever You Want To With Mobile Broadband
Mobile broadband is what internet entrepreneurs have been waiting for. The ability to work from wherever you want to without being connected to a landline or having top find a WiFi spot. It couldn’t be easier. Just plug in the USB modem and you are online. There isn’t even any software to load as it is pre-loaded in the modem. Just plug in and go! Wherever you can get a 3G signal – and by the end of this year that’ll be 98% of the UK by population – you will be able to send and receive emails, download files, surf the net or update your websites (as I’m doing now!) at speeds equivalent to your typical broadband set up at home. Outside of areas with 3G coverage you will still be able to get online using the 2G network, but obviously at lesser speeds. The best news of all is that it isn’t expensive. You pay a monthly fee for 24-7 access to the internet and even the USB modem is free on 18-24 month contracts. Here’s a quick round up of what’s on offer. T-Mobile for my money currently lead the pack thanks to their announcement that access to over 1,000 Wi-Fi spots including those at airports, train stations, coffee shops and service stations will now be included for free in their contract packages. I actually paid £5 for an hour’s access at Glasgow Airport last year so this is a huge saving for those who travel a lot. Prices start at £20 a month for 3GB of data transfer. I’m currently using Three’s mobile broadband service. They have just announced a deal with T-Mobile to integrate their 3G networks which is fantastic news for customers of both customers. I’m paying £15 a month for 3GB which is ample for my needs and I do like Three as a company. That said though, when my contract ends I’ll be looking closely at T-Mobile because of the free use of those Wifi spots. Three’s entry level 1GB package is just £10 a month though so if you wouldn’t use mobile broadband a great deal that could be the package for you. Vodafone have just slashed their prices for mobile broadband by half and you can now use their mobile broadband service for £15 a month for 3GB. Indeed, why not make it three or four weeks – or even months – when you can work from anywhere? |
