Domain Names I Registered Today
After yesterday’s “last post” before I go walkabout for a couple of months, I received two emails asking for more information about the type of domains I register. So I thought I’d quickly run through today’s domain registrations and why I registered them. I was up early this morning and one of the main news items on the TV breakfast programmes was that contraceptive pills were being sold online by a UK company for the first time today. Immediately I’m thinking domain names and before 8am I’d registered seven related domains including contraceptive-pills.co.uk and oralcontraception.co.uk. My guess is that more websites will start selling the Pill and other forms of contraception online in the coming years and that I will see a good return on those names, most probably by selling them on rather than developing them. The only other name I registered this morning was one that someone let go – undresstoimpress.co.uk. I like clever names like that and to me it had lingerie site written all over it. This one I may well develop. Come the afternoon and I registered uncommonsense.co.uk (again I like its quirkiness, but will probably have to wait to find a buyer who shares my slanted take on the world) and talkguitars.co.uk – perfect for a guitar forum or a guitar buying advice website. My son went on a school adventure day recently that included indoor karting so I couldn’t resist registering indoorgokarting.co.uk and two related karting names. This one I’ll almost certainly develop unless an indoor karting company makes me a decent offer on them. Total cost to me about £70 for the 13 names. Nothing out of this world, most were just sitting there waiting for anyone to register, and yet I know that collectively I’ll receive many times my outlay from them in the days, months and maybe years to come. |
