My word of the day – fusby
It can’t be easy getting media coverage for everyday mundane things, but Collins have managed it with the release of its “endangered words” list.
Apparently, the addition of 2,000 new words in the forthcoming edition of the company’s flagship English Language Dictionary means that up to 24 rarely used words face the chop. Words like niddering which means cowardly and olid which means foul smelling.
My favourite is fusby which means short, stout or squat. I’ve started using it as much as possible and in a bid to help save it from extinction at the hands of Collins I even registered the domain name fusby.co.uk yesterday and put up a quick holding page asking passersby to breathe new life into the word. Yes, I know, I should have better things to do with my time.
Just goes to show though that with a little thought you can get publicity for virtually anything.
I also registered scratchmyback.co.uk yesterday which I was very pleased to get, along with a few others that will keep for a rainy day. Scratch My Back has a great ring to it and if I don’t sell it, I’ve a few ideas for developing it at some point in the future. It was due to drop on Sunday, but when it didn’t I booked it again for Monday and was lucky enough to get it then.
While I remember, someone emailed me and asked if I was still recommending Total Choice Hosting for hosting websites and the answer is yes. Their support is truly excellent, even more so considering their very low prices.
Domain name registration, for .co.uk names I have my own Nominet account and for .com names I still use Go Daddy (the discount codes hash3 and OYH3 mean you pay just US$6.95 per registration or renewal).
For domain parking, I have now moved nearly all of my names from Sedo to NameDrive who I would now recommend to anyone with names gathering dust (although development is definitely the way to go eventually).
