£10,000 Cash Prize On Offer For Young Entrepreneur Of The Year

If you’re aged 16-30 and have been running your own business for between 3-18 months, here’s something for you to do this weekend.

Enter the Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010 competition.

You will need to do it this weekend because the deadline for entries this year is 5pm on Monday the 6th of September 2010, but it could be your most productive weekend ever – especially if you win the £10,000 cash prize when the national winner is announced in October.

Since 1982, Shell LiveWIRE has helped over 600,000 young people in the UK with starting their own business and I’m proud to count myself as one of those 600,000.

Not long after its launch, I entered with my idea to produce a business opportunity magazine, but unfortunately I wasn’t the national winner or even the regional winner. However, such was the quality of entries in the Strathclyde region that year, that Shell together with Strathclyde Regional Council made the decision to award additional and unexpected cash prizes to two runners-up who they would otherwise have put through to the national finals, and I was one of those lucky recipients of a cheque for £250.

£250 was a great deal of money to me at the time, but looking back, what meant the most to me was the fact that a panel of experts had seen something in me that told them that I was capable of running my own business. Like a lot of young entrepreneurs, I was struggling to make ends meet and that vote of confidence in me and my idea was a fantastic boost. And here I am, 25 years later, still plugging away.

So, if you think you’ve got what it takes to be the Shell LiveWIRE Young Entrepreneur of the Year 2010, don’t dilly dally. Apply online now at Shell LiveWIRE.
